Witness tree: Learn what a 100-year-old oak tells us about climate change. 

In 2017, Arboretum magazine Arnoldia published an excerpt of Witness Tree: Seasons of Change with a Century-Old Oak. Written by environmental reporter Lynda V. Mapes, the book chronicles her year at the Harvard Forest, a 4,000-acre research site 80 miles outside of Boston. The piece explores what can be learned about climate change from studying a single red oak.
